apero1"On prend l’apéro?" is so common it has almost become a clichéd phrase in France. Much more enjoyable during summer on a terrace, outside at Bistro Maxine bistro1
or in a friend’s backyard, l’apéro (short for l’apéritif) is the moment in the day where both food, and taking the time to stop and enjoy life become part of the French culture. The apéro is about allowing your mind and body to stop and rest after a long day at work, or a busy afternoon at the beach - a parenthesis between the daily routine and dinner.

We have enhanced our menu with delicious appetizers called "Tartines Apéro" in France, which are available at Happy Hour and dinner.

tartine14So what exactly are Tartines Apéro?
In France "Qui dit apéro, dit forcément toasts et tartines!", loosely translated means "L’apéro obviously goes with tartines". Tartines are small bites on bread (toasted or not) you enjoy with a glass of wine before a meal and are easily appreciated by everybody. At Bistro Maxine you can be sure to find one you like: check out the image gallery below for a sample.

Our wine selection features Robert Hall's finest wines. Our expanded wine list now includes the Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon (91 points - Tastings.com 2014) and the Meritage (92 points - Wine Enthusiast).

We also now offer beer and cider on tap, featuring Trumer Pilsner, Saint Archer White Ale, Ballast Point Sculpin IPA and the Crispin Apple Cider.

The Sauvignon Blanc greets the senses with crisp apple and citrus aromas with hints of pear. In the mouth, the wine exhibits bright fruit flavors of grapefruit, lime, apple, lemongrass and pear that echo the aromas. It is a great combination with the Salmon Tartines Apéro.

wine bottlesThe intense dark ruby red color of the Cabernet Sauvignon is reflective of this full-bodied, flavorful wine. The core of black currant and hints of cedar and spice along with cocoa aromas echoed by rich persistent flavors of plush ripe fruit, dark chocolate and anise are all supported by balanced rich velvety tannins. We recommend it with most of our savory crêpes and the the following Tartines Apéro: Purée de Marron & Jambon  or the Gorgonzola and Walnuts with Balsamic vinegar reduction.

The Meritage is a classic Bordeaux style blend of noble grapes (Merlot, Petite Verdot with Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon). It presents elegant aromas of black currant, cassis and ripe plum, complemented by intriguing earthy notes of cedar. The color is deep ruby red, dense, and reflects the intensity of this vintage. On the palate the wine shows exceptional depth of flavor with firm but velvety tannins. Red wine lovers will definitively enjoy the Meritage as a stand alone happy hour glass of wine, or along some of our richer crêpes.

We continue to offer Clos Normand traditional French cider, which is the number one drink in France when eating crêpes.

Happy Hour is available Tuesday through Friday from 4 to 7pm.
